Museum Trip 4th October 2024
Year 9 have been learning about fossils in science for the past few lessons and were keen to see some in real life. Derby Museum have a range of fossils, including an Ichthyosaur and a famous local celebrity, The Allenton Hippo! Fossilised Mammoth teeth, fish and a wide range of taxidermy were also on show. Teaching assistant Saskia particularly liked the fox.
The museum, on The Strand, is completely free to get in and is open Tuesday to Saturday. The top floor has two real mummies from ancient Egyptian times, the students were fascinated to learn about the mummification process. We also saw art work from local artists, Joe Wright and Marion Adams, the abstract painter. There is also a huge exhibit of war time Britain, including military uniforms and weaponry.
The year 9 students really enjoyed their visit to the museum and were calm and well behaved at all times, a real credit to Castle School. Some of the students and staff are planning to return with their families for a second look.
