Last half term, our Year 7 Horizon class embarked on an exciting journey around the world, exploring different cultures through food, language, art and crafts.
As part of their cultural studies, students enjoyed tasting foods from a variety of countries, including China, India, Japan, Spain and Mexico. They also discovered a range of tropical fruits, such as pawpaw, dragon fruit, figs and passion fruit, broadening their understanding of foods from around the world. The class even completed detailed observational drawings of some of the fruits, combining their learning with artistic skills.
The highlight of the term was a special Horizon Dinner Party, where students worked together to prepare, cook and serve a delicious three-course meal. The menu included:
Roasted Tomato and Pepper Soup with Croutons
Three Cheese Rigatoni with Pancetta and Garlic Bread
Traditional Eton Mess
Students took responsibility for every stage of the event, from preparing and cooking the dishes to serving them at beautifully dressed tables complete with tablecloths, flowers and candlelight. The dinner party provided a wonderful opportunity for students to develop teamwork, organisation and hospitality skills while celebrating their achievements.
Alongside their cultural studies, Year 7 students have been showcasing their creativity in Art through an exploration of Pop Art and contemporary artists.
The class studied the work of iconic artist Andy Warhol, creating artwork inspired by his distinctive printmaking style. They also produced photographic collages in the style of David Hockney, using photographs taken during a visit to the Andy Warhol exhibition in Nottingham.
In addition, students explored the work of Keith Haring, the renowned American street artist whose bold and energetic visual style helped him become one of the most recognised artists of his generation.
It has been a fantastic half term filled with creativity, cultural discovery and hands-on learning. We are incredibly proud of everything the Year 7 Horizon class has achieved and look forward to seeing what they create next!
