Rolls Royce visited Castle School along with Balfor Beatty who are supporting Rolls Royce with the development of the submarine programme. As a school we are working in partnership with them to provide opportunity for our students to enter the highly rated apprenticeship programme.

Rolls Royce have requested to work alongside us to identify potential young talent for the future. Their training scheme is highly supportive and inclusive, and they celebrate and recognise neurodivergent skills as something to pursue and enhance the workforce.

The Castle students were doing tabletop activities to enhance their understanding around engineering. This was accessed through games, discussion and workshop style activities.

The students were given replica jet engines to strip down and build up again. This helped them understand the principles of how jet engines worked and the engineering behind it. They discussed practical examples of how the engines are used to support take off, flight and landing. Students also took part in races to try to assemble and disassemble

The students were able to have a go at using endoscopes. These are used by engineers to get into the inspection ports of engines pre and post flight to identify that everything is working correctly and to monitor the life span of the different components of the engine. This was replicated by a bucket of balls and the students having to find things using the endoscope to work its way through the obstacles.

This is a miniature version of a jet engine which has been stripped down. Our students became very quick at this process as the morning went on.
