Adaptable Social Skills Problem-Solving Independence Respect Expression
At Castle School, we create an environment rooted in expert relational practice, combined with high expectations and tailored support to meet individual needs. This approach leads to strong academic achievement and social-emotional development, equipping students with skills that extend beyond their time at Castle School. As a result, our students are well-prepared for post-16 destinations and enjoy enhanced life opportunities.
Key Stage 3
In Year 7, pupils transition from their primary setting into the main school environment. They are supported through a carefully structured approach that gradually introduces them to a full secondary timetable. This includes broadening the range of discrete subjects, increasing exposure to different teaching staff, and using a wider variety of learning spaces. The transition is thoughtfully managed, recognising that our Year 7 pupils are becoming more aware of routines, environments, and subject-specific expectations. Through this process, they gain confidence as learners and develop a clear understanding of our classroom standards. Students start to gain knowledge and experience of CEIAG and embark on a number of trips and experiences throughput the year. They also experience trips which a subject specific related to enhance their learning experience and develop skills outside of the classroom.
During Years 8 and 9, pupils deepen their subject knowledge across a broad and balanced curriculum. They are encouraged to explore their interests and potential, often beginning to develop more specialised knowledge that supports future pathways at Key Stage 4. High expectations are set for academic progress, guided by available attainment data and progress measures at Key Stage 3. Alongside this, we carefully consider each pupil’s social and emotional development to ensure they begin Key Stage 4 on the pathway best suited to their individual needs and strengths.
